What to see

The mosque was built in the 1850s in the ornate neo-Baroque style of the late Ottoman court, with tall windows that fill the single domed hall with light reflected off the water.

A visit inside takes a quarter of an hour; most people stay longer on the square around it, with its cafés, stalls and ferry landing. As a working mosque it follows prayer times and the usual dress code.

Evening, when the bridge is lit, is the classic time for photographs; weekends are crowded.

Getting there

Buses along the Bosphorus shore road from Kabataş and Beşiktaş stop at Ortaköy; it is about 30 minutes on foot from Beşiktaş.
