About Divriği

Sivas has a compact group of thirteenth-century Seljuk colleges in its centre, and the building where the 1919 Sivas Congress met. It is also a stop on the Eastern Express line.

Divriği, a small town in the mountains to the south-east, keeps a mosque and hospital founded in 1228 whose carved stone portals have no equal in Anatolia; they are the reason most travellers make the long trip.

Is Divriği worth visiting?

For lovers of architecture and stone carving, absolutely — the north portal is unforgettable. For others it is a long detour for a single monument.

Plan a night in Sivas and a full day for Divriği; the Eastern Express makes an atmospheric way to arrive.
