Camping in Türkiye

Where you can pitch a tent or park a caravan legally, from Thrace to the Black Sea and the south-east: camp areas in national and nature parks, campsites licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 975 private bungalows, campsites, glamping sites and caravan parks on a map, and what the law says about camping anywhere else.

Fire season: the ministry treats 1 June – 31 October as high fire-risk; governorships can close forests to visitors in that period. Check the provincial governorship's notices before you go.

Private places listed on ilçemde, a Turkish local directory: 488 bungalows, 397 campsites, 19 glamping, 18 tree houses, 53 caravan parks. These are businesses, not designated public camp areas — check prices, the season and any licence with the owner. Names and addresses stay in Turkish so you can show them to a driver.

How we rank: within each region, Ministry-licensed places first (only where ilçemde matched the place to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism list exactly — 2 so far), then by public map rating weighted by the number of reviews: a 5.0 from three reviews counts for less than a 4.7 from three hundred. Ratings and review counts come from ilçemde's data with their source on each card (checked 1 Oct 2026); places without a rating come last. No business pays to be listed. Websites are shown only when ilçemde has checked that they work.

Nature-park camp areas (DKMP)

National and nature parks are run by the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP). You camp at the park's designated tent or caravan area and pay per unit per night. 69 parks show a camp area on DKMP's nature-tourism map or park pages; the point on the map is the park, not the exact pitch.

Tariff rules: fees are per 4-person tent or caravan unit per night. At camp areas run by the administration itself, fees are 50% lower outside 1 June – 31 October, and students get 30% off a tent pitch; electricity and water are charged separately. Where a contractor runs the site, its contract price may differ. Camp areas outside Istanbul, Antalya and Muğla were read from DKMP's nature-tourism map on 1 Oct 2026; their fees were not checked.

Licensed campsites

58 private campsites, recreation areas with lodging and forest parks hold a Ministry of Culture and Tourism licence (list downloaded 30 Sep 2026). The list gives no prices, seasons or caravan details, so we do not either. Sites whose licence is still at application stage are left out.

Wild camping: what the law says

Each rule below cites the legal text it rests on. Where we found no specific rule, we say so. This is not legal advice; local decisions by governorships can be stricter.

Overnight stays in state forests

In state forests you may only stay overnight at places designated by the forest administration. Pitching a tent anywhere else in a state forest is prohibited.

Campfires in forests

Fires are allowed only at hearths designated and permitted in the forest, and must be fully put out before you leave. Throwing unextinguished cigarettes is also prohibited.

Fire-risk season (June to October)

The Ministry treats 1 June to 31 October as the high fire-risk period. In these months governorships may close forests to visitors for some time. Check the provincial governorship's announcements before you camp.

National parks and nature parks

Visitors may use national parks, nature parks, natural monuments and nature conservation areas only under the rules set by the park administration (DKMP). In practice you camp at the park's designated tent or caravan area and pay the published per-unit fee. The law also forbids anything that damages the ecosystem or wildlife.

Forest recreation areas (mesire yeri)

Only Type A forest recreation areas allow overnight stays, in tents, caravans or cabins. Type B and C areas are for day use only: picnic and rest, no overnight stay.

Beaches and the coastline

No national rule was found that specifically allows or forbids pitching a tent on a public beach. Municipalities and governorships may regulate it locally, and many beaches are also in forest land or protected areas, where the rules above apply. Ask locally or use an designated camp site.
