Privacy
In short: turkeyroutes has no accounts, sets no cookies and uses no outside analytics or advertising services — only an anonymous page count on our own server. Your trip plan stays in your browser.
Who runs this site
turkeyroutes.com is an independent travel guide run from Türkiye. Contact: hello@turkeyroutes.com.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Netinternet, Türkiye) records technical access logs when a page is requested: IP address, date and time, the page and the browser identifier. They are used only to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and the host deletes them on a rolling basis. We don't use them to profile visitors. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in running the site securely).
Page count
To see which pages are useful, our own server counts page views. When a page has been open for a few seconds, your browser sends us the page address and the name of the site that linked to it (for example google.com). We keep that with the time of day — no IP address, no cookie, nothing stored in your browser, nothing shared with anyone — and delete it after 90 days. The server also notes which pages automated crawlers fetch, by their declared type only. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the guide).
What is stored in your browser
The trip planner keeps the places you picked, your language and dismissed tips in your browser's local storage. So that pages work without a signal, your browser keeps copies of the pages you opened (service worker). None of this is sent to us. You can delete it any time in your browser's site data.
Your location (“Near me”)
Only when you choose “Near me” does your browser ask for permission. The position is used only in your browser, to sort places by distance, and is not sent to us.
Reports you send us
If you send the “Tell us about a change” form, we keep the date, the page language, the kind of change you chose, the page address and your text — only to check and correct the guide. We don't ask for your name or e-mail and we don't store your IP address: to limit the number of reports it is turned into a one-way hash for one day, then deleted. Please don't put personal details in your message. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Services your browser contacts directly
- Map tiles – OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org): when an interactive map is shown, your browser loads the map images from there, which passes on your IP address and the map area you are looking at. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
- YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com): videos load only after you press play. Before that nothing comes from YouTube, not even a preview picture. After the click, Google's privacy policy applies.
- Links to Google Maps, YouTube and official sites are opened by you; only then does that provider receive data.
Fonts and the map library are served from our own server; no third party is contacted for them.
Where the server is
The site is hosted in Türkiye. For visitors from the EU, the server logs above are therefore processed in a third country.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection (GDPR Art. 15–21) and the right to complain to a data protection authority. Because we store no personal data apart from the server logs, requests usually concern those. Write to us at hello@turkeyroutes.com.
