What to see

The north portal, with its three-dimensional foliage and medallions, is the most extraordinary piece of stone carving in Anatolia; the hospital next door, founded by a princess, has its own richly carved gate and an octagonal pool in the hall.

An hour or so. As it is a mosque, avoid prayer times and dress accordingly; parts of the complex may be under restoration.

Divriği is a long way from anywhere: plan a night in Sivas, or come on the Eastern Express line, which stops at Divriği.

Getting there

Divriği is about 170 km south-east of Sivas by road; the Doğu Ekspresi and regional trains call at Divriği station.
