The cheapest and most local way to cruise the Bosphorus: a public ferry from Eminönü up the strait between Europe and Asia to the fishing village of Anadolu Kavağı.

What to see

The long tour zigzags between the two shores, calling at Beşiktaş, Üsküdar, Kanlıca, Sarıyer and Rumeli Kavağı, past waterfront mansions, Rumeli Fortress and the three Bosphorus bridges. At Anadolu Kavağı there is time for lunch and a climb to the ruined Yoros Castle.

The long tour takes most of the day, with a break of about two and a half hours before the return sailing; the short tour turns back after Ortaköy and fits into an afternoon.

Board early and take a seat on the open deck on the side facing the shore you want to watch. Clear autumn and spring days give the best light.

Tours leave from the Boğaz (Bosphorus) pier at Eminönü, beside the Eminönü stop of the T1 tram line.
