What to see

It opened in 2008 on a concept by the historian of science Fuat Sezgin. Most exhibits are reconstructions built from historical texts and drawings: astrolabes and globes, clocks and navigation instruments, medical and surgical tools, mining, physics and optics, mathematics and geometry, and war technology, arranged in twelve sections.

One hour; it is an easy addition to a day at Topkapı Palace or the Archaeology Museums, which are next door.

Labels are detailed — allow more time if you like to read, and less if you are visiting with young children.

Getting there

Inside Gülhane Park, in the old palace stables building below Topkapı; tram T1 to Gülhane, then a few minutes on foot.
