What to see

Built for the grand vizier Rüstem Pasha, the mosque stands on a raised platform with shops underneath, reached by narrow stairs from the street. The tiles — tulips, carnations and the famous tomato-red of İznik — cover the porch, the walls and the piers.

Twenty to thirty minutes is enough. As a working mosque it follows prayer times; dress modestly and take your shoes off inside.

It is easy to miss: look for the stairway entrances on Hasırcılar Caddesi, a few minutes west of the Spice Bazaar.

Getting there

A five-minute walk from Eminönü (T1 tram, ferries) through the market streets west of the Spice Bazaar.

Transport lines are general directions, not checked against the operator's timetable.

Nearest rail & tram stops

  • T1T5 Eminönü in Turkish Tram stop ~400 m~7 min walk (estimate)
  • M2 Haliç in Turkish Metro station ~600 m~10 min walk (estimate)
