What to see

The building is small but finely made, with a sculpted frieze of Adam and Eve on the south porch and a separate bell tower in the garden. Its frescoes are among the best preserved of late Byzantine painting.

Half an hour to an hour. As a working mosque it follows prayer times, and visitors keep to the usual dress code; arrangements for viewing the paintings can change.

Combine it with the old walled town and the seafront of Trabzon.

About 3 km west of Trabzon's Meydan square, near the coast road; city minibuses (dolmuş) pass nearby.
