What to see

The museum moved into a new building within the citadel walls in 2019. Thirteen halls run from the Chalcolithic to the Ottoman period, with halls for the Assyrian trade colonies, the Hittites and the Late Hittites; the Kültepe material is the core of the collection.

One to one and a half hours; it pairs naturally with a visit to Kültepe, about 20 km to the north-east.

A good stop on a day out of Cappadocia or on arrival at Kayseri airport.

Getting there

Inside Kayseri citadel on Cumhuriyet Square in the city centre; the tram stops nearby. From Göreme it is about 58 km in a straight line.
