What to see
Excavations at Pergamon began after reliefs of the Altar of Zeus were found inside the Byzantine wall on the acropolis in 1865; published digs followed in 1878–86. A small depot museum was set up in the garden of the excavation house, and the finds were later moved to a museum building in town.
Forty-five minutes to an hour — a good stop before or after the acropolis.
