What to see

The collection runs in time order around the central hall: wall paintings and mother-goddess figures from Çatalhöyük, gold from the Bronze Age tombs of Alacahöyük, Assyrian trade tablets from Kültepe, then the great Hittite reliefs and the Phrygian finds from Gordion.

Allow two hours, more if you read the panels. Some galleries close in turn for repair work, so not every hall may be open when you visit.

Combine it with a walk up to the castle a few minutes away; mornings are quieter than weekend afternoons.

Getting there

In the Ulus / Kale area of old Ankara, a short walk below the castle; Ulus metro station is the nearest.
