What to see

Ayder is the easiest of the Black Sea yaylas to reach: timber guesthouses line the road, waterfalls drop off the valley walls and the meadows fill with flowers in early summer. Walking trails and 4x4 tracks lead up to the higher pastures such as Huser and Pokut.

A night or two is ideal if you want to walk; a day trip from Rize is possible but the drive up the Fırtına valley deserves time of its own.

Summer weekends and the July–August holiday season are busy; late spring and September are calmer. Mist and rain can come in at any time.

Getting there

About 90 km from Rize via Ardeşen and Çamlıhemşin; minibuses run from Rize and Pazar, more often in summer. The nearest airport is Rize–Artvin.
