What to see

Viewing terraces and paths look across to the falls, and steps lead down towards their foot. Upstream, Lake Tortum lies in a valley of bare, colourful hills.

An hour at the falls; it is usually combined with the drive through the Tortum valley towards Yusufeli and the Georgian church of Öşkvank (Öşk Vank).

The falls are at their fullest in late spring and early summer, when the snow melts; in late summer the flow can be much smaller, as the water is also used for a hydroelectric plant.

About 115 km north of Erzurum on the road to Artvin, near Uzundere; by car or tour.
