What to see

According to the Ministry, about forty rooms have been uncovered so far, together with toilets, washing places and cellars, and the complex has a ventilation system of its own. Kırkgöz means "forty eyes" — in Turkish göz is also a word for a chamber or compartment.

Thirty to forty-five minutes; see it together with the St Mercurius Underground City in the same village.

Passages are low and narrow — not for anyone uncomfortable in tight spaces.

Getting there

At Saratlı, 22 km from Aksaray and 50 km from Nevşehir (Ministry figures); from Güzelyurt it is about 22 km in a straight line. By car.
