What to see

Karain is an archaeological site rather than a show cave: the reason to come is its long human story. Excavations found traces of hunter-gatherers from the Palaeolithic onwards, and in Classical times the cave was used as a shrine, with Greek inscriptions and niches cut around its mouth. The finds are shown in the site museum and in the Antalya Museum.

A path climbs from the museum to the cave mouth, which opens high above a travertine plain. Allow about an hour for the museum, the climb and the chambers.

Come in the morning or late afternoon outside midsummer: the path is exposed and there is little shade.

Getting there

In Yağca, about 30 km north-west of Antalya, a few kilometres off the old Antalya–Burdur road; by car or taxi.
