What to see

Under the turquoise cone lie Rumi, his father and his followers, their tombs covered with embroidered cloths and turbans; the rooms around the courtyard show manuscripts, musical instruments and the cells where dervishes lived and studied.

Allow an hour. It is a place of pilgrimage as well as a museum, so dress modestly and expect crowds of Turkish visitors, especially on Fridays and holidays.

Come early. On Mondays the ministry notes a later ticket-office opening in the morning. The whirling ceremony (sema) is held at the nearby cultural centre, not in the museum.

Getting there

At the east end of Mevlana Caddesi in central Konya; the city tram stops nearby.
