What to see

The church has a cross plan with three apses and a central dome, all cut from the rock. Its paintings follow the great feasts of the Church calendar and the life of Christ — his childhood and Passion on one side, the Crucifixion and Resurrection among the main scenes.

Fifteen to thirty minutes inside; walk on along the Zemi Valley if you have time.

It is small and fills up quickly when a group arrives; early morning is calmest.

In the Zemi Valley on the eastern edge of Göreme, about 1 km from the village centre; a short walk along the valley road.
