What to see

In summer, ships and sea buses from Istanbul bring large numbers of holidaymakers. The sandy beaches run right round the island, with vineyards on the low hills inland; the provincial tourism directorate also points to the beach on the neighbouring island of Ekinlik.

Two or three days; this is above all a summer island.

Expect lively, crowded beaches in July and August rather than a quiet island.

Getting there

By ship or sea bus from Istanbul in summer, or by ferry from the southern Marmara coast — check the operator İDO for the current season's timetable.

Transport lines are general directions, not checked against the operator's timetable.
