What to see

The "Midas Monument" is a cult façade some 17 metres high, framing a niche for the mother goddess. Above it, paths lead across the plateau past stepped altars, rock-cut tunnels, cisterns and later tombs.

Allow an hour and a half to walk the plateau. The site is at the heart of the Phrygian Valley, where rock tombs and chapels are scattered over a wide area of forest and fields.

Late afternoon light brings out the carving. The plateau is exposed; take water and a hat.

Getting there

At Yazılıkaya village (Han), about 70 km south of Eskişehir; a car is by far the easiest way.
