What to see

The walls and towers run from the harbour, where the octagonal Red Tower guards the old shipyard, up to the Ehmedek and the inner citadel. Inside the walls are a village with old houses, a small Byzantine church and cisterns; the ticketed inner citadel has the widest views over Cleopatra Beach and the Taurus mountains.

Allow two hours for the citadel and a walk down through the walled quarter.

Sunset from the top is the classic time; the road up is steep, so take a bus, taxi or the cable car from the beach side and walk down.

Getting there

On the peninsula in the centre of Alanya; city buses and a cable car run up from near Cleopatra Beach, or walk up from the harbour.
